The counselors at Renaissance Charter School at Chickasaw Trail, Mrs. Rhevelle Parris and Ms. Aunya Lumpkins, strive to involve parents and teachers to maintain a healthy school-life balance. They understand that emotional well-being and mental health are integral to student academic achievement and functioning.
During their “Cookies with the Counselors” event, parents had the opportunity to learn about Habit 1: Being Proactive (Franklin Covey 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.) Being proactive says, “I am in charge of my own life; I am responsible for whether I am happy or sad, and I can choose how to react to other people or situations.” The goal is to teach parents about planning ahead and setting goals with your children because being proactive helps reinforce desired behaviors and create a common language between home and school.
Parents had the opportunity to have a one-on-one conversation with the counselors, and share any concerns about their children. Going forward, these sessions with the counselors will continue on a monthly basis. Parents will remain involved and work together with the teachers and counselors to ensure the overall emotional well-being and academic success of each and every student.
